Chestnut is public: free for personal use, no account needed

Chestnut is open to everyone. Anyone on a Mac can download Chestnut and start using it straight away, with no sign-up.

Why Chestnut exists

Once you give each stage of a feature its own agent session, one to plan, one to build, one to review, the number of sessions grows fast. Going from four or five to twenty or thirty is normal, and keeping track of them becomes the job. Chestnut is a terminal built for that: it runs Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode side by side and keeps a record of what each one did.

What you get

• Sessions organized by the work. Group sessions by feature, with a badge on each that says working, waiting on you, or idle.
• Search across every conversation. Full-text search over all your agent conversations, including the history already on your disk, which Chestnut imports on first launch.
• A timeline for each session. The Inspector shows what a session did, the friction it hit, and the pull requests and files it touched, so you can catch up without reading the transcript.
• Your plan's usage at a glance. Each plan's 5-hour and weekly usage sits in the status bar.
• A daily Notebook. An optional write-up of what your agents did each day, run on your own agent.

Free, and no account

Chestnut is free for personal use, with every feature. If you use it for paid work, Pro is $10 a month or $96 a year. You only need an account to start a Pro trial, send private feedback or get test builds.

Your conversation history stays in a local database on your Mac and is never uploaded.

Chestnut runs on macOS 13 or later, on Apple Silicon.
